| Dear Wine Aficionado, This weeks newsletter will be short as your editor has been indisposed with one of those flu bugs going around. This evenings tasting features affordable Chardonnay from around the world. See below for details Next week we will have a look at global affordable Pinot Noir. For Pinot Noir affordable really means under $70.00. It is hard to find good Pinot Noir at a reasonable price but we do have one Yarra Valley entry for the tasting which retails at a surprising $18.00 considering its quality. The following week we are pleased to welcome Rodrigo Mira, Export Director from Altaïr Vineyards & Winery, who will present two newly released 2003 vintage wines from premium Chilean producer Altair vineyards Over the next few weeks we will be offering out some older vintage bin ends. Next week we will feature the Rhone Valley from the greater to the lesser appellations. Affordable Global Chardonnay This Evening, 6 to 8 pm, In-Store, Free The in store tasting this evening is affordable global Chardonnay and, contrary to last weeks posting, there is no charge. The wines include an examples from Australia, California, Chile, France and New Zealand Please note that the store opening hours are midday to 8pm 7 days a week. For phone inquiries to 03 9417 7220 please ring during these times The Europa Cellars team, John, Brian, Nick, and Sam view newsletter online Wine of the Week 2007 Bodegas Leceranas Evohe Garnacha 'Vinas Viejas' Shelf Price $25.00 Offer Price $21.50 100% Old Vine Garnacha from Bajo Aragón, Spain The 2007 EVOHÉ Garnacha has been macerated and fermented using old concrete vats dating back to 1912. No oak aging was required. Average age of the vines used was 70-80 years old. Color: Inky red color. Nose: On the nose, dry red raspberry, cherry, red currant, smoke, white rock, red slate. Palate: On the palate, fresh raspberry, bright red juicy fruit with great minerality, good acidity, grippy tannins, medium body and a long finish. It goes well with poultry or pork chops. 91 points Peñín Guide to Spanish Wine, 2009 Drink now to 2012. Upcoming Events Affordable Global Pinot Noir Tuesday 20th October , 6 to 8 pm, In-store, $10.00 Pinot Noir is a fussy grape, difficult to handle in the vineyard and the winery. Burgundy remains the region where it achieves its finest expression albeit at somewhat stratospheric prices. At the affordable every day drinking level the playing field is much more level. This tasting takes a look at global Pinot Noir to see how the styles vary in the sub $70.00 price range. Altair and Sideral - 2003 vintage tasting Tuesday 27th October , 6 to 8 pm, In-store, Free Rodrigo Mira, Export Director from Altaïr Vineyards & Winery, will be visiting Melbourne on 27th October as part of the winery’s 2009 Tour of the Asia-Pacific region; he will showcase the two new icon wines from Chile, Altaïr and Sideral at an exclusive tasting for Europa Cellars customers. This is a great opportunity to taste these two great wines from the 2003 vintage and to purchase them at very special prices.
