It is a wine that has evolved and filed out over the past few years and was very well received at last weeks global Pinot Noir tasting. Well worth trying. download order form 2007 Dugat-Py Pre-Arrival Domaine Dugat-Py “Bernard Dugat, who now manages 10 ha with the additions of several recent purchases and some vineyards from within the Dugat-Py family, said that 2007 was “a very curious vintage with lots of contrasts. April was very hot and very dry and that jump started the growing season by at least 3 weeks. Then there was a very cool and damp summer with rot pressure and we began to wonder whether we would ever see the sun and if the grape would ever get ripe. Then, the weather turned again and the maturities exploded. We began picking in the Côte de Beaune in Pommard and then on the first of September in Gevrey though we did not start on the grands crus until the 8th. Yields averaged around 25 hl/ha and sugars were good at between 12 to 12.5% and chaptalization was between none and half a degree, depending on the wine. We did a normal vinification with varying degrees of destemming that lasted approximately 3 weeks. Overall, the ‘07s are very good wines that reflect their terroirs accurately and should age well over the medium-term, perhaps longer. It’s honestly hard to say which vintage is more successfully chez Dugat-Py between 2007 and 2006 as it’s really a wine by wine comparison with some better in ’07 and some better in ’06. Either way, the quality is truly remarkable and if you can find the wines, they are most impressive. It pays to remember however that the Dugat-Py wines are built for the very long haul and it is largely pointless to open them young.” Burghound.com 2007 Dugat-Py Bourgogne Note: this is an assemblage wine from many plots covering 1.13ha of mainly younger vines with an average age of 25 years. This wine sees 10% oak and the rest ages in one year old barrels. “A notably ripe nose of raspberry liqueur precedes nicely rich, full and fresh flavors that are still very primary in character and culminate in a concentrated and persistent finish. Very good if not stunning quality at this level and certainly worth a look.” 85-87 Points Drink 2011+ Top Value. Burghound Shelf Price $106.00 Offer Price $90.00 limited 2007 Dugat-Py Bourgogne Halinard Note: this special Cuvee was first made in 2000 and is from Gevrey Chambertin vineyards. Dugat-Py prefer to declassify this wine to Bourgogne level to make a clear difference between this and their other Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvees coming from better placed vineyards and older vines. The result is possibly one of the best Bourgognes available! Note: from vines of 50 to 95 years of age situated in Epointures, Combe du Dessus and Les Marchais aged in 65% new wood and vinified with 50% of the stems. “Great colour and rich supple jammy raspberry/loganberry fruit aromas. On the palate solid chunky jammy fruit with amazing complexity for this level. Finishes with good weight and texture.” 88 Points Drink 2010+ Importers Review Shelf Price $143.00 Offer Price $122.00 limited 2007 Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Note: vinified with 20% stems from vines 30-50 years old. “Mild reduction renders the nose difficult to read but the rich, full and naturally sweet flavors are dense, powerful and very serious. This isn’t an elegant wine but it is a balanced effort with outstanding underlying material and plenty of Gevrey character.” 88-91 Points, Drink 2014+ Burghound Shelf Price $277.00 Offer Price $252.00 limited 2007 Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Coeur du Roy’ Vieilles Vignes Note: from vines of 50 to 98 years of age situated in Epointures, Combe du Dessus and Les Marchais aged in 65% new wood and vinified with 50% of the stems. “A slightly riper yet still extremely fresh nose where the fruit is redder and more layered that merges seamlessly into dense, concentrated and exceptionally textured medium weight plus flavors that despite the size and weight retain a fine sense of delineation on the powerful but harmonious finish. This is a truly amazing villages with some of the best underlying material I’ve seen in this vintage at this level. This beauty should reward 8 to 10 years of cellar time and then drink well for another decade.” 91-93 Points, Drink 2015+ Outstanding! Burghound Shelf Price $372.00 Offer Price $316.00 limited 2007 Dugat-Py Pommard La Levrière Vieilles Vignes Note: from a .8 ha parcel of 75+ year old vines; 50% stems. “A very different nose of leather, freshly turned earth and relatively high-toned dark pinot fruit that introduces rich, full and velvety medium weight plus flavors blessed with ample dry extract on the concentrated mid-palate that completely buffers the serious and long finish underpinned by a firm tannic spine. This is an impressive wine that displays no rusticity at all.” Recommended. 89-92 Points, Drink 2015+ Burghound Shelf Price $392.00 Offer Price $333.00 limited 2007 Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Note: from a trio of Gevrey 1ers surrounding Mazis-Chambertin - Corbeaux, Fontenys and La Perrière, the latter of which replaces the Petite Chapelle that was in the '99; vinified with 60% stems. Vines on average are 65 years old. “A wonderfully broad based nose displays notes of violets, blue berry, earth and subtle spice hints that complement well the finer and equally silky palate impression with an attractive mineral streak, all wrapped in an almost painfully intense and gorgeously persistent finish. Another terrific effort that barely contains its sense of energy.” 91-94 Points, Drink 2017+ Outstanding! Burghound Shelf Price $522.00 Offer Price $444.00 only 2 btl available 2007 Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Champeaux’ Note: from a .33 ha of 50+ year old vines; 60% stems. “A discreet floral note adds interest to the ripe dark berry fruit that carries a distinct sauvage note as there is a smoked meat character that continues onto the velvety, rich, pure and mouth coating flavors that are also blessed with huge underlying material that relegates the firm tannic spine to the background and makes this seem unduly forward. Make no mistake however, this explosive effort is built to age and will need at least a decade to be at its best.” 91-94 Points, Drink 2017+ Outstanding! Burghound.com Shelf Price $609.00 Offer Price $518.00 only 2 btl available 2007 Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Petit Chapelle Note: from 50 year old vines vinified with 50% stems. “As it usually is, this notably more elegant with high-toned red and blue berry fruit, wet stone and a subtle hint of forest floor that carries over to the rich, refined and beautifully detailed flavors that also ooze a sense of minerality on the balanced, focused and linear finish. While there is more elegance here, there is slightly less complexity. Still, this is a really pretty effort by any standard.” 91-93 Points, Drink 2015+ Don’t Miss! Outstanding! Burghound.com Shelf Price $609.00 Offer Price $518.00 only 2 btl available 2007 Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Note: a blend of one-third Mazoyères and two-thirds Charmes proper - the fruit comes from a mix of mostly 20 year old, and a small percentage of extremely old, vines vinified with 40 to 50% stems. “Here the nose is even more complex if less elegant and refined with a nuanced, layered and pure red berry fruit and pungent earth component that also characterizes the velvety, seductive and supple flavors that possess so much sap that this could actually be drunk now with pleasure. However, the buried tannins are only temporarily hidden and this will be capable of improving for years to come.” 92-94 Points, Drink 2019+ Don’t Miss! Burghound Shelf Price $960.00 Offer Price $816.00 only 2 btl available 2007 Dugat-Py Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Note: from .25 ha parcel of 60 year old vines planted at a density of 14,000/ha in Mazis-Bas - vinified with 90% stems. “An intensely floral nose of dried rose petal and violets that add a touch of elegance to the otherwise intensely animale and earth-infused red and blue pinot fruit and this is undoubtedly the most complex nose in the group outside of the Chambertin. The supple and strikingly pure big-bodied flavors are really quite fine yet well muscled and this is a rare combination of finesse and power. Moreover, it is also blessed with incredible underlying material and the finish just goes on and on. Indisputably terrific though again, patience absolutely required.” 93-95 Points, Drink 2021+ Don’t Miss!
