The average age of the vines is 10 years and the yield is 42 hectolitres per hectare. The fruit is handpicked and is fermented in stainless steel for 25 days and racked morning and evening. 35% is matured in oak and the balance in stainless steel. This is a fruit driven wine with a freshness and suppleness balanced by fine tannins. It can be drunk now or will keep for at least 6 years download order form Domaine Pegau Pre-Arrival Domaine Pegau Regarded as the leading Domaine for traditionally styled, age-worthy Chateauneuf-du-Pape in this large and presigious appellation. Pegau's vineyards consist of 11 parcels totalling 19 hectares among Chateauneuf's best terroirs' including in 'La Crau'. Domaine Pegau was established in 1987 when Laurence Feraud, having completed her wine making studies and her father Paul Feraud renamed the existing family estates to signal a new direction. The name is derived from the "Pegau", a wine jug found in the excavations of the 14th Century Popes Palace in Avignon. 2008 Domaine Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape blanc Produced from 60% Grenache blanc, 20% CLairette, 10% Bourboulenc and 10% Roussane. "Pale yellow. Bright, mineral-driven aromas of Meyer lemon, orange and pear. Racy and finely focused, with clean citrus and orchard fruit flavors and an undercurrent of gently musky herbs. The mineral note recurs on the long, tangy finish. This might work with shellfish, which is a rarity for this appellation." 90 pts Stephen Tanzer Shelf Price $99.00 Offer Price $84.00 2006 Domaine Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Reservee' rouge "The 2006 exhibits gamy, meaty, new saddle leather, kirsch liqueur, black currant, pepper, lavender, and spice notes. The wine is full-bodied, rich, deep, and long." 92-94pts Robert Parker The Wine Advocate #179 "Tasting through the different components that will be blended together for the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee, there is no question that the Ferauds have pulled much more material out of this vintage than many. It is a deep ruby/purple-hued, up-front, sexy Chateauneuf with sweet, silky tannin, elegant, delicious fruit, and medium to full body. This will be a more evolved, quicker maturing vintage than other recent years. The 2006 is unquestionably more sensual and seductive than most young Pegau wines, and, therefore, has no shortage of charm and appeal. However, it will evolve nicely for 15 or more years." 91-93pts Robert Parker The Wine Advocate #173 "Saturated red. Impressively complex scents of red and dark berries, cherry, leather and garrigue, with smoky minerals and dried flowers adding interest. Juicy raspberry and blackcurrant flavors pack serious punch and are seriously concentrated but there's a real elegance to this wine. Licorice and candied flowers echo on the long, sappy finish. This looks to be as good as the superb 2005 today." 94 pts Stephen Tanzer 500ml Shelf Price $106.00 Offer Price $89.50 750ml Shelf Price $159.00 Offer Price $135.00 Magnum Shelf Price $331.00 Offer Price $282.00 2005 Domaine Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Laurence' rouge "The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Laurence appears to be the finest example of this wine since the 1998. Wonderfully rich, concentrated notes of roasted Provencal herbs, jammy black cherries, new saddle leather, and loamy soil are present in this stunningly rich, full-bodied wine. With excellent concentration, moderate tannin, and fabulous length as well as intensity, it should be released in 2009-2010, and will keep for 20-25 years. 91-93pts Robert Parker The Wine Advocate #179 "Component #1: Gamey red and dark berry aromas are complicated by cured meat and underbrush. Intensely spicy, sharply focused raspberry and bitter cherry flavors lifted by a hint of cracked pepper. Impressively concentrated and long. Component #2: Richer than the first foudre, showing pungent cherry and cassis aromas and a hint of licorice. Stains the palate with sweet dark fruit flavors and candied flowers. Gains weight on the finish, which strongly echoes the licorice note." 93 pts Stephen Tanzer 750ml Shelf Price $319.00 Offer Price $271.00 Magnum Shelf Price $654.00 Offer Price $556.00 download order form Domaine Du Coulet Pre-Arrival Domaine Du Coulet The Cornas appellation covers 250 acres of steep terraced slopes that rise to 350 metres. Cornas oonly allows 100% Syrah, unlike Cote Rotie and Hermitage which allow a percentage of white grapes in their wines . Soils of a degraded granite (Gore), small gravel and schist on east facing slopes allow excellent ripening conditions in the free draining soils. Matthew Barret started the domaine in 1998 after receiving the parcels of land from his grandfather who had previously sold to negociants. Like many bio-dynamic practitioners Barret maintains yields at very low levels (15hl/ha for the Terrasses du Serre and a staggering 5-8hl/ha for the Billes Noires which not only allieviates disease pressure but has the added benefit of increasing intensity in the resultant wine. Long slow ferments using only indigeneous yeasts and no filtration or fining, result in wines that are a true expression of their terroir. 2007 Domaine Du Coulet Cornas 'Brise Cailloux' "Even more complete is the dense purple-hued 2007 Cornas Brise Cailloux. Sweet fig, blackberry, and scorched earth characteristics are enticing as well as intense. Full-bodied with layers of concentration, admirable purity, sweet tannin, and an enticing texture result in a Cornas to enjoy over the next 10-15 years." 90-92 pts Robert Parker, the Wine Advocate #182 Shelf Price $108.00 Offer Price $92.00 limited 2007 Domaine Du Coulet Cornas 'Les Terrasses du Serre' "The 2007 Cornas Les Terrasses du Serre reveals an impressive black/ruby color as well as a classic bouquet of crushed rocks, flowers, blackberries, new saddle leather, and hints of licorice and pepper. Surprisingly round and generous with impressive concentration, this wine should drink well for a decade." 88-90 pts Robert Parker, the Wine Advocate #182 "This is a whole other ball game¿ripe and racy, with an extra dimension to the violet and bluebell aromas and layers of crushed plum, blackberry, fig, dark olive and iron, all coursing through the superfresh, driven finish. Drink now through 2018." 93 pts JM Wine Spectator Shelf Price $159.00 Offer Price $136.00 extremely limited 2007 Domaine Du Coulet Cornas 'Billes Noires' "The most concentrated, seriously structured, backward cuvee is the 2007 Cornas Billes Noires. Displaying enormous potential, it offers an opaque purple color along with a perfume of graphite, pen ink, blackberries, bouquet garni, and roasted meats. This enormously-endowed, full-bodied, dense, chewy wine should evolve for 15 or more years." 90-93 pts Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #182 "This moves between racy and muscular, with very invigorating acidity carrying the dark briar, tobacco, pastis and crushed plum flavors. Long and driven, with nearly crackling minerality stretching it all out, as hints of lavender, rosemary and iron echo on and on. Best from 2010 through 2020." 94 pts JM Wine Spectator Shelf Price $210.00 Offer Price $179.00 extremely limited download order form Upcoming Events This evening Tuesday 24 November - In store tasting - Beaujolais Tonight we will taste a selection of wines from a number of different Beaujolais producers covering Beaujolais Villages and crus of Beaujolais including Chiroubles, Cote de Brouilly and Moulin A Vent.
