Our tasting tonight will showcase a selection of 10 wines under $30.00, most of them being new additions to the shop. The tasting will feature a range of both whites and reds from diverse regions including Cotes de Gascoigne, Touraine, Apulia, the Loire Valley, the Barossa Valley and the Riverland in SA. This wine uses fruit from two regions, the majority from the Maipo Valley and the rest from Cachapoal Valley. The wine was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and 40% of the wine was aged for eight months in French and American oak barrels. download order form Quality Greek Reds 6-pack Offer GAIA Estate was founded in 1994 by Leon Karatsalos and Yiannis Paraskevopoulos with a commitment to producing quality wine from the unique indigenous grapes of their native Greece. Both owners have degrees in agronomy from the University of Thessaloniki and Paraskevopoulos also received a Ph.D in Oenology from the University of Bordeaux II. Based in the Pelopponese in Nemea, GAIA produces stunning examples of the indigenous Agiorgitiko grapes, where it produces soft elegant reds, and another estate in Santorini where they produce minerally - bone dry whites made from the Assyrtiko grape. Kir-Yianni was established in 1997 by Yiannis Boutari, a member of the famous Boutari wine family, with the aim of making top quality wine. They are based in Naoussa in the northern province of Macedonia where they are best known for their red wines made from Xinomavro. Xinomavro loosely translates into "acid-black" and like its name produces wines with high levels of acidity and tannins. The quality is evident in these wines and they have propelled the perception of greek wines into the domaine of international wine standards. Shelf Price for offer $304.00 Offer Price $259.00! download order form 2008 Agiorgitiko by GAIA Shelf Price $32.00 This wine is made from fruit sourced from a selection of sites on the upper slopes of Nemea at elevations of between 450 and 650 meters. Aged in French oak barrels, this wine fits in between Gaia’s other Agiorgitiko’s; the Estate which is produced to be aged long term and the Notios which is made to be consumed at release. 2007 GAIA 'S' Shelf Price $56.00 70% Argiorgitiko & 30% Syrah. Regional Wine of the Peloponnese. A blend using the native Agiorgitiko variety with Syrah both sourced from the south west slopes of Koutsi, Nemea. The grapes were cold soaked then slowly fermented in oak casks to ensure a good level of colour and flavour was extracted. The wine was then matured for 12 to 14 months in new French oak casks - the final wine was bottled straight from the cask with no fining or filtration. 2006 GAIA Estate Shelf Price $75.00 The yield of Gaia Estate's 25 year old vineyard is closely monitored so that it remains low, never exceeding 56 hl/he. Extended periods of maceration and the wine is then aged in (50% new) Aliers and Nevers French oak casks (225 litres). The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation during its first winter of aging. Ultimately, Gaia Estate is bottled directly from the cask without prior treatments such as chilling or filtration. 2006 Kir Yianni Ramnista Shelf Price $38.00 Kir-Yianni own 50 hectares of vineyard planted with indigenous and international varieties on the eastern and western slopes of Mt Vermio. This wine is made from Xinomavro from selected south east facing vineyard blocks at around 300m above sea level on the Yianakohori estate. Four-day cold soak followed by cool fermentation and aged 12 months in French and American oak, some new, some 500 litre 2007 Kir Yianni Estate Shelf Price $43.00 The 40% Xinomavro, 60% Merlot from the home vineyards at Yianakohori, the same vineyard as the Ramnista, part of the thirty distinct vineyard sites owned by the estate. The fruit is handpicked and manually sorted prior to crushing. The wine undergoes cold soak maceration for 5 days and is then fermentation lasts for 12-15 days. The wine is then placed in new 225l French barrels for malolactic fermentation. After this it is transfered to 2 and 3 year old American and French oak barriques for about 12 - 14 months. The wine is then aged in bottle for 6 months prior to release. 2005 Kir Yianni Dyo Elies Shelf Price $60.00 60% Syrah, 30% Merlot, 10% Xinomavro. The fruit is all handpicked and manually sorted prior to crushing. The seperated components undergoes a cold soak period for a week. They then raise the temperatures of each separate varietal to start fermentation. Each of the components is then aged seperately for a period of 12-14 months in both French and American oak casks (25% new);225 litres and 500 litres (the latter for the more delicate Xinomavro). Then wine is then aged in bottle for 6 months prior to release.
