Bordeaux Primeur #8
Domaine Tempier 6-pack
Bistro & Delicatessen News
Dear Wine Aficionado,

It is hard to believe, but we have finally reached the end of our 2009 Bordeaux Primeur. We have added a final 5 estates and we have promised ourselves this will be the last. Due to the massive interest in la Tour Blanche from Sauternes we have been able to secure a larger allocation so more of this wine is also available. Once again, please use this current form for orders and remember that we do still have wines available from the previous 7 offers and that the new additions are marked in red.

This week we are offering a pre-arrival 6-pack of the new release wines from Domaine Tempier. These wine are due to arrive with us in late July. For more information please see below.

Also this week at the Europa Bistro & Delicatessen our wine tasting flight will be looking at fortifieds. The tasting of 4 wines is $10 or for a more informative look we will be hosting a tutored look at these wines on Wednesday July 7th at 6pm, this evening includes some food to accompany and is a mere $20.

John, Aidan, Nick, Boon & Sam

Bordeaux 2009 #8

"First, and most importantly, for some Médocs and Graves, 2009 may turn out to be the finest vintage I have tasted in 32 years of covering Bordeaux. From top to bottom, 2009 is not as consistent as 2005, but the peaks of quality in 2009 may turn out to be historic." Robert Parker

"A number of Bordeaux vintners say that their wines are already so fantastic that they are enjoying them straight from the vat. The year (2009) started with wet weather for most of winter and spring. Some areas were hard hit by hail in the spring. Yet summer weather was impeccably warm, dry and sunny. The water table in the soil was high enough to offset the dry summer, and a little rain in September revived the vines completely, helping the fruit mature to near perfection." James Suckling

"Left Bank that provides the most pleasure,... Do not dismiss the Right Bank, in particular a clutch of breathtaking Cabernet Franc based Pomerols and Saint Emilions" Neal Martin Wine Advocate

"I have never given so many really high scores when tasting en primeur anywhere." Jancis Robinson

"Yesterday I had the enormous pleasure of tasting 25 Sauternes 2009 blind at Ch Coutet and by and large they were fantastic. And so much more difficult to make than the red wines that get so much attention. Lots of richness and botrytis. I loved particularly Ch Suduiraut, Guiraud, Nairac, La Tour Blanche and Doisy-Daëne." Jancis Robinson

The 2009s seem to have a 'togetherness' that will make them at once approachable in their youth but also probably, as for the 1929s, unexpectedly long-lived." Bill Blatch Vintex Bordeaux Negociant on Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages

2009 is definitely the vintage that every wine critic has been drumming on about and we are proud to present you our first offer of our 2009 Bordeaux Primeurs. Prices for these wines are all inclusive of Australian duties and taxes and we are offering 2 prices for the wines; by the full case (12 bottles) and by the single bottle in a split case. Prices for single bottles are charged an extra $3.00 for handling split cases. Please note that these wines are expected to arrive in mid 2012.

Bordeaux Rouge

2009 Canon la Gaffeliere St Emilion
Single bottle price - $166.00

Full Case/ per bottle - $1956.00 / $163.00
"Dark ruby/purple, with notes of incense, sweet cedar, black cherry jam, cassis, and blackberry as well as licorice and subtle smoke, this wine has superb texture, a full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning concentration, and not a hard edge to be found. It is one of those remarkable 2009s with amazing power and density, but also tremendous finesse, precision, and freshness, an anomaly in itself. Bravo! (Tasted four times.)" 94-96 points Robert Parker
"Blackish crimson. Fragrant, even lightly soapy. Well integrated and relaxed. Fine boned. Some might find this eviscerated. I think it’s quite elegant." 17 points Jancis Robinson

2009 le Petit Mouton Pauillac
Single bottle price - $168.00

Full Case/ per bottle - $1980.00 / $165.00
"The second wine, the 2009 Le Petit Mouton, is the finest second wine they have ever made. Aromas of black currants, flowers, mocha, and earth jump from the glass of this fleshy, heady, full-bodied wine. It should drink well for 15+ years. (Tasted once.)" 90-92 points Robert Parker

2009 D'Issan Margaux
Single bottle price - $112.00

Full Case/ per bottle - $1308.00 / $109.00
"A wine boasting stunning minerality along with notes of flowers, blueberries, and black currants. Full-bodied with silky tannin, a tremendous opulence, and levels of density and richness never before seen at this estate, this brilliant d’Issan should age for three decades or more. (Tasted two times.)" 93-95 points Robert Parker
"Dark, intense nose. Very smooth and satin-like with the tannins extremely ripe underneath. Fresh and ripe and easy. With a nice kick on the finish." 17 points Jancis Robinson

2009 Blason D'Issan Margaux
Single bottle price - $45.00

Full Case/ per bottle - $504.00 / $42.00
"Scented, herbaceous, quite light and lightly green on the nose then sweet and easy. Very Margaux. Bravo! But a fairly lissom thing. Slight leanness on the finish." 16 points Jancis Robinson

2009 la Croix de Beaucailou St Julien
Single bottle price - $76.00

Full Case/ per bottle - $876.00 / $73.00
"Ducru’s second wine, is a thrill to taste. Made from a single vineyard, it exhibits a dense purple color along with a creamy texture and loads of creme de cassis fruit intertwined with notions of charcoal, incense, and spice. Round, generous, and opulent, it can be drunk now or cellared for 15+ years. (Tasted once.)"
88-90 points Robert Parker
"Deep crimson. Lively and fresh on the nose. Sleek, polished, very sweet and frank – black fruits on the palate." 16.5 points Jancis Robinson

Bordeaux Doux

2009 la Tour Blanche Sauternes
Single bottle price - $109.00

Full Case/ per bottle - $1272.00 / $106.00
"Grapefruit, nectarine and apricot aromas. The palate is very well balanced, just a little oaky at the moment but with a very fine thread of acidity. Touches of fresh apricot, a hint of nougat, lime zest and white peach. Well balanced, linear at the front palate but voluminous and expanding across the mouth in every direction on the viscous, mineral-rich finish. There is so much potential here. Superb."
94-96 points Neal Martin, eRobertParker
"Tang and interest on the nose. Big, weighty. But with good acidity and definition and it's awfully difficult to spit!" 18 points Jancis Robinson
