Dear Wine Aficionado,
This weeks 'What We're Drinking' looks to Austria with a truly delightful and spicy Gruner Veltliner. This Saturday 21st August we will have the 3 single vineyard Pinot Noir's from Hurley Vineyard open for tasting, so pop past the cellars between 2pm and 4pm. We have two 6-packs on offer again this week. The first is a quirky selection of alternate varietals which hopefully broadens your palates and opens up the world of wine even further. The second is a selection of Cabernet Sauvignon as crafted by 6 different producers from 6 different countries. The vineyards are planted to a high density of 6000 vines per hectare which keeps the yields low and quality high. In the winery he keeps things simple with spontaneous fermentation rather than inoculated and he also likes to keeps the wines on their lees for several months for added texture, complexity and finesse. His attention to detail was rewarded in 2002 when Austria's Falstaff magazine named him "Winemaker of the Year". 2008 Loimer Gruner Veltliner $35 Kamptal, Austria "Spicy and peppery with notes of grapefruit and pineapple.
