What We're Drinking

This is a new section we are devoting to something new we have to the shop and something we find delicious.

Albert Mann is one of the top producers based in Wettolsheim, a village in the Haut Rhin, Southern Alsace. The firm was established in the 18th Century and now owns over 21 hectares of vineyards, spread through Wettlsheim which includes the Grand Crus of Schlossberg, Furstentum, Hengst, Steingrubler and Pfersigberg.

2009 Albert Mann Pinot Blanc Auxerrois $30
Alsace, France

"Lifted aromatics of honeysuckle, peach, grapefruit and melon. The palates follows through with some honeyed grapefruit, a light phenolic grip and fine acidity."

Greenock Creek Pre-arrival
Established in 1978, Greenock Creek is a tiny 'boutique' Barossa winery with a production level of only 2500 cases per year, owned by Michael and Annabel Waugh. These wines, fashioned from old, low-yielding vineyards, have accumulated quite a reputation. This year we have secured an allocation of Cornerstone Grenache, Alices Shiraz and Apricot Block Shiraz and the 6-pack includes two of each of the wines. We also have some very limited supplies of the Roennfeldt Road Cabernet and Shiraz available from 2001, 2003 & 2004.

2009 Cornerstone Grenache $36
Barossa Valley, SA
Sourced from a 66 year old vineyards and aged in a mixture of French and American oak.

2008 Alices Shiraz $38
Barossa Valley, SA
Made from the youngest vines, 13 years old, aged for 28 months in old American oak.

2008 Apricot Block Shiraz $43
Barossa Valley, SA
Made from vines that are 16 years old, also aged for 28 months in seasoned American oak.

Domaine Tempier 6-pack
With much excitement we unpacked the new relaeses from Domaine Tempier last week and after sending out the pre-arrivals we thought they are just too good to not offer out again. The 6-pack contains two bottles of each wine.

"Domaine Tempier is Bandol's best and most storied producer; its wines have made a noticeable upswing in quality under the leadership of winemaker Daniel Ravier. Cabassaou, La Tourtine and La Migoua refer to specific plots on the estate." Wine Spectator

"There should be an entire book about the Domaine Tempier” “…today makes the finest red wine of Provence." Kermit Lynch, Adventures on the Wine Route

2007 Bandol 'Classique' $71
Provence, France
"Aromas and flavors of mocha, kirsch and dark plum are pure and powerful. A finely crafted red, with a mineral-rich finish loaded with dark chocolate notes."

2007 Bandol 'la Migoua' $105
Provence, France
"A pure and powerful red, finely polished and structured, with a broad swath of red plum, raspberry and cherry flavors. There's concentrated cedar and cigar box on the finish. Tempting now."

2007 Bandol 'la Tourtine' $105
Provence, France
"Very beefy and rich, with good cut to the red plum, dried berry and kirschlike flavors. The intense and concentrated finish is dominated by vibrant mineral and spice notes. A good candidate for the cellar."
