Wine of the Week
Pre-Arrival Offer: Bernard Moreau et Fils
Tastings & Dinners

Dear Wine aficionado,

The wines of Bernard Moreau have been a great sucess at Europa since day one. Predominantly white wines based around some goos Chassagne Montrachet sites, they are supple, pretty and delicate but certainly not shy on flavour. Don't forget a case or two of his red wines as they never last long on our shelves.

Also, we're happy to announce a few new tastings to our schedule, and don't forget our Game and Pinot Noir dinner at Sarti. It is sure to become a dining treat not to forget.

To make a booking or place an order, please reply to this email, or alternatively download the Order Form now. Please note: We've had some troubles with our fax machine over the last week. If you have not heard from us regarding any faxes sent, please let us know. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

Regards

The Europa Cellars team

Wine of the Week

2007 Pierre Bise Cabernet d'Anjou (rosé)
Full Price $26.50 / Wine of the Week Price $20.50 / Dozen Unit Price $19.50

Jancis Robinson, in the Oxford Wine Companion has the following to say about the appellation of Cabernet d'Anjou: "Much more refined, and incredibly long-lasting, is rosé Cabernet d'Anjou, which must be made from Cabernet Sauvignon or, much more likely, Cabernet Franc grapes. It can be quite sweet but usually has very high acidity which can preserve it for decades and makes it an interesting partner for a wide range of savoury dishes."
Claude Papin, the spirited owner/winemaker of Domaine Pierre Bise, is without question one of the leading figures in Anjou-Saumur. His wines (and there are quite a few of them!) are site-specific, terroir-true examples that offer fantastic value for money. This Cabernet d'Anjou is no different:

Pre-Arrival Offer

Bernard Moreau et Fils, Burgundy
(Wine arriving in September/October, offer expires on arrival or whilst stocks last)

Bernard Moreau’s son Alexandre reported that 2006 was a “vintage where we began picking on the 20th of September and brought in very clean chardonnay with sugars in the 13 to 13.5% range. In terms of the whites, they’re a blend of 2004 and 2005 with the minerality of 2004 and the richness and power of 2005. We did fine the ‘06s but only filtered a few of them as they fell brilliant without difficulty.”

WHITES
2006 Bourgogne Blanc / Shelf Price $40.50 / Pre-arrival Price $34.50
"An interesting nose of straw, resin and fresh orange peel merges into round, rich and generous flavors that possess an attractive texture and good finishing persistence. Moreover, there is good concentration if not special depth for a wine of this level." 85 points, Allen Meadows' Burghound, Issue 31, Third Quarter 2008

2006 Saint Aubin 1er Cru "Sur Gamay" / Shelf Price $70.00 / Pre-arrival Price $59.95
"This is always a lovely wine and this year is no exception. Aromas of creamy butterscotch and vanilla. On the palate there is also a richness and the butterscotch comes through. There are crisp citrus notes to balance the fruit and the finish has great purity." Importer's notes

2006 Meursault "Les Vireuils" / Shelf Price $81.00 / Pre-arrival Price $69.00
"This is from one of the cooler vineyards chez Moreau and as a result Alex takes great care with his oak handling. This wine was bottled 2 months prior to tasting as was still a tad closed. On the nose light pear and mineral notes with elegant wood elements.  Very fresh on the palate with fantastic minerality-pear fruit and great depth. Lovely rich mouthfeel." Importer's notes

2006 Chassagne Montrachet / Shelf Price $81.00 / Pre-arrival Price $69.00
"2/3rds of this wine comes from the Puligny Montrachet side of Chassagne Montrachet. Very complex fruit nose, cumquat and orange peel aromas with light integrated wood.  The palate a very rich and powerful attack. A mélange of ripe fruit flavours. This is fantastic for village level Chassagne." Importer's notes

2006 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" / Shelf Price $128.00 / Pre-arrival Price $108.50
"(from the sub-climats of La Cardeuse and Fairendes). A completely different aromatic profile evidences notes of spiced pear and white flowers that give way to dense but focused and powerful big-bodied flavors brimming with dry extract and a mouth coating finish. This is a big, indeed classic Morgeot but one that avoids any sense of heaviness." 90 points, Allen Meadows' Burghound, Issue 31, Third Quarter 2008

2006 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Vergers" / Shelf Price $128.00 / Pre-arrival Price $108.50
"Here the nose is extremely fresh and bright with yellow fruit, resin and citrus blossom aromas preceding the rich, full and also admirably fresh and vibrant flavors that are concentrated and silky while finishing with a solid tangy quality to the linear finale. This is really quite fine and worth a look." 90 points, Allen Meadows' Burghound, Issue 31, Third Quarter 2008

REDS
2006 Passetoutgrains / Shelf Price $30.00 / Pre-arrival Price $25.50
"Only 4 barrels of this wine were made. This wine is almost exclusive to Australia. Light fresh violet aromas. This wine has amazing fruit considering the vintage. This is a lovely wine and exceptional value-Alex complained that he makes absolutely no money on this cuvee. His loss is our gain." Importer's notes

2006 Bourgogne Rouge / Shelf Price $35.00 / Pre-arrival Price $29.95
"(from Chassagne vines and 100% barrel aged in 4 to 5 year old oak). A ripe and pretty nose of earthy red berry fruit aromas lead to supple, round and nicely voluminous flavors that possess both good character and depth on the solidly long finish. This is better than correct for its level." 85 points, Allen Meadows' Burghound, Issue 30 Second Quarter 2008
